Uninstalling TAL for Excel
Microsoft Excel does not make the uninstallation
of add-ins (including TAL) as clean as possible. The problem here is that
Excel makes its own records about TAL. Because of this separate recording,
normal uninstallation will not remove Excel's own records on TAL, so Excel
still thinks TAL is installed even after uninstallation.
Do not worry; imperfect uninstallation is not
harmful in any way. The purpose of this section is so that you know what
to do if you get any error messages after uninstalling TAL. Again, none
of these error messages are harmful.
To uninstall TAL for Excel version 2.0 onwards:
- Run the supplied Uninstall program to uninstall TAL. Alternatively,
you can uninstall TAL through the Windows Add/Remove Programs
which is found in the Windows Control Panel.
- Run Excel. Excel may complain that a TAL file was not found. This
is okay; just continue.
- Go to the menu commands Tools|Add-ins. Find TAL's entry in
the list of available add-ins, and remove the check mark. If there
isn't any check mark beside TAL's entry, check it. Either way, Excel
will complain that a TAL file was not found, and then Excel will remove
TAL's entry from the list.
- Uninstallation of TAL is now complete, and Excel is pacified. Don't
blame me; complain to Microsoft Corp.!
To uninstall TAL for Excel version 1.0, 1.0b:
These older versions do not have an uninstall
facility because TAL was much simpler then. All of TAL files can be manually
deleted. You can use go to DOS and issue the "del" command, or use the
Windows File Explorer to delete all of TAL files.
