Previous changes of TAL for Windows
Changes in ver. 3.0b - Feb. 01
- Bug fixed in Range Lookup: Silt class was mis-specified in
the USDA and Canadian schemes. This has been fixed.
- Bug fixed in Point Lookup: Sand values were mistakenly taken
as silt values, and vice versa.
Changes in ver. 3.0a - Feb. 01
- Bug fixed in Range Lookup: Two texture classes (sandy loam
and silt loam) were mis-specified in the USDA and Canadian schemes.
This has been fixed.
Changes in ver. 3.0 - Feb. 01
This is a major version release. The following are the changes:
- "TAL Calculator" is now called "TAL for Windows".
- New feature: Range Lookup is a feature whereby for given a
particle-size distribution range, TAL can list all texture classes within
that range. For example, in the USDA scheme, TAL reports the following
texture classes for 30-50% clay and 10-30% sand: "clay, silty clay,
silty clay loam, and clay loam".
- New feature: TAL can now handle large data sets up to 1000
soil samples.
- New feature: Added file saving and loading capabilities.
- User interface completely changed. A major change is that data entry
and output in TAL now mimics spreadsheet cells as found in Excel and
Lotus 123.
- Users no longer need to set any options (such as default soil schemes)
manually; options are saved automatically based on last used settings.
- Corrected some errors in the help file.
Changes in ver. 2.8 - Nov, 1999
- International soil classification scheme added. TAL Calculator now
supports 4 classification schemes.
Changes in ver. 2.71 - Feb, 1999
- Bug fixed: Clay loam texture class was mis-specified in the
UK classification scheme. This was corrected.
- Users can no longer choose another location for the help file. TAL
Calculator's help file should not be moved from its original location.
- The positions of silt and sand input boxes were swapped.
Changes in ver. 2.7 - Nov, 1998
- Added 2 soil classification schemes: UK (England and Wales) and Canadian
soil schemes. TAL Calculator now supports 3 classification schemes,
including the USDA scheme.
- User interface is modified and enhanced to accommodate the additional
classification schemes. The main change is its expanding/shrinking dialog
box to reveal/hide the soil classification types.
- Greater ability for user customisations. Users can specify the default
soil classification scheme to always use; to specify which particle
size to always omit; and to specify the help file location.
- Improved uninstalling capabilities.
Changes in v2.01b - Oct, 1998
- Bug fixed: TAL Calculator may give erroneous result when a
particle size distribution lies exactly at certain boundaries of 2 or
more USDA texture classes. Ver. 2.01b now conforms completely to the
USDA scheme.
Changes in ver. 2.01 - Oct, 1998
- Bug fixed: help file location is now stored in Windows' Registry
so TAL can always locate the help file.
- Minor changes to the user interface: user interface is now slightly
smaller and some rearrangements of buttons
Changes in ver. 2.0 - Oct, 1998
- The user interface is smaller, easier to use, and more compact.
- TAL Calculator always stays on top of all windows. Bugs fixed: in
version 1.0, entering exactly 0.0 (or just 0) yields an error message
that you must enter a value between 0 and 100. There were also a few
problems with how the help file is displayed in version 1.0. All these
problems have been fixed.
- No longer supported: if the sum of particle sizes is not exactly
100%, texture class lookup will fail. In version 1.0, the Calculator
will give all possible matches for its texture class. I decided to remove
this feature because this kind of data is erroneous anyway.
- Buttons now look more cool with graphics instead of just text.
- Support for tooltips. Just hover the mouse pointer over a control
(check box or button), instructions appear on what the control is.
